I’m extremely thrilled to introduce the first-ever OOTYULTRA 2020 90k runner, Georgy Cherian, from Soles Of Cochin (Cochin Runners).
Georgy Cherian is an accomplished #ultramalaivasi and not new to OOTYULTRA. He has already completed the 60k distance in 2019 with an impressive improvement of over 26 mins from his 2018 OOTYULTRA.2018 60k: 7:29:452019 60k: 7:03:34
I had invited Georgy to run the 90k and he without any hesitation said he was interested. I was very delighted when he wrote to me confirming his participation today. Georgy says, “In 2020, we have an even more thrilling adventure coming up in the form of a 90km run. It definitely is going to test our mettle, and it sure is going to be challenging. Something that lingers in my mind after the last 2 races with regards to the route would be those last 10kms climb. I am sure Kay would make it even more interesting this time around.”
“Being in a city, we are all used to flats, but then training on the hills is equally essential. Though I haven’t worked out any particular strategy, I do know that I need to incorporate a few hill training routines starting from now, at least. It would also be useful to run in some trails running every week. And some cross-training on the bike would help. A UTMB race participation would be a little too much to aspire for, but I would love to get some training runs in before I can think of a qualifier race.”
“The 90k distance, together with a gain of 3800+m in a 12hr time-frame does give me the jitters, but then having these challenging conditions, is better at times. After all, like many ultramarathoners, I’m here to test my limits in one way or another. I’m looking forward to meeting the other 90k runners along with many other 60k ultra-marathoners. I hope all of us can complete our races confidently and much more, thereby getting to know ourselves better.
Thank you Georgy!! and on behalf of OOTYULTRA I would like to wish you a very happy new year and for successful training for your UTMB / OOTYULTRA 90k. You are certainly an inspiring runner for us!!
