BECOME #ULTRAMALAIVASI

Hailing from the small town of Avinasi, 24-year-old Balamurugan life is probably amongst the most inspiring stories we have to share.

Since childhood, he has had to struggle with a handicap that has rendered his right hand effectively useless. When he runs, he uses his left arm to hold and support his right arm. It is hard to imagine how hard it is to do this while running over long distances.

After completing his high school, Balamurugan started working in a local factory. He took to running around three years ago and has since run several 10km events, half-marathons and one full marathon. His best half-marathon timing is an amazing 1hr 46m.

Balamurugan trains alone. He runs 10km every day barring weekends when he manages to squeeze in a long 20km+ run on his one holiday – Sunday. He goes to a local gym a few times a week for strength training.

Balamurugan aspires to make it to the Indian Paralympic team at some time soon. Earlier this year he placed 3rd in the TN Para Sports State championship in the 5000m event.

OOTYULTRA is happy to have Balamurugan where he will be running the 15 k category. Join us and wish him all the best.
